Why Affiliate OS Publisher uses Pinterest
Phoenix Media Lab publishes its own content on Pinterest. Affiliate OS Publisher lets us prepare that content once, choose the right board, schedule it for a specific time and confirm that each Pin was actually created, instead of posting each Pin by hand. Each Pin can link to a page that Phoenix Media Lab uses for its own campaigns, so that we can see which of our Pins people find useful.
How it works
- Prepare content. Phoenix Media Lab uploads or selects an image it has chosen to publish and writes the Pin title, description, alternative text and destination link.
- Connect our account. We connect Phoenix Media Lab's own Pinterest business account with Pinterest's OAuth authorization screen. Pinterest shows the permissions being requested, and we approve them on Pinterest. Affiliate OS Publisher receives an access token from Pinterest. It never receives the account password.
- Choose a destination. Affiliate OS Publisher reads the connected account's boards and board sections so that we can choose where the Pin goes.
- Schedule or publish. Only content that Phoenix Media Lab has reviewed and marked as ready is published, either immediately or at the scheduled time.
- Monitor status. A publication is shown as published only after Pinterest returns the new Pin's ID. Failures are recorded with a short, non-sensitive reason so that we can fix them.
- Disconnect at any time. Disconnecting the account in Affiliate OS Publisher deletes the stored Pinterest tokens.
What Affiliate OS Publisher does not do
- It does not ask for, collect or store Pinterest passwords or Pinterest session cookies.
- It does not access, manage or publish to accounts that Phoenix Media Lab does not control.
- It does not collect data about other Pinterest users, their followers or their content.
- It does not send messages, and it does not automate likes, follows, comments, saves or any other engagement.
- It does not create or manage Pinterest ads, and it does not use advertising or catalog permissions.
- It does not sell or share Pinterest data for advertising.
Data and security, in short
- Pinterest access and refresh tokens are used only to make authorized Pinterest API requests for Phoenix Media Lab's account.
- Tokens are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, and the encryption key is held separately as a protected server secret.
- Tokens stay on the server. After the connection is made they are never sent to a web browser, placed in a URL or written to logs.
- The Affiliate OS Publisher application is not public. Its administration screens are protected by access control that only Phoenix Media Lab can pass.
